Blog >> Outdated or Update

Remember the 80s hairstyles, big and wild.  It comes time to update or you’ll be outdated.

Here was “my moment” of clarity when it became time to update or I’d be outdated.  I was adjusting my ear-piece on the green screen chroma key wall, getting ready to perform my weathercast on the nightly news. The news anchor reads, “Google bought YouTube….” The news reader continues the voice over, but there I stood, stunned. I knew that my television weather job was in jeopardy.

This realization flashed over me like a flood with a dam burst open.  I recognized people could get more thorough weather reports than I could deliver on a two- minute weather broadcast. The specific information kids needed at the bus stop, snow plow drivers, skiers, ice-fishermen, moms in high heels, golfers, little leaguers, gardeners, bird watchers and soccer moms everywhere had accurate forecasts at their finger tips 24/7 from their computers, and texted to their cell phones 24/7 with updates. My job was outdated.

I knew e-video would outlast TV weather reporting.  So I chose to update my career  and be an important part of the future of online marketing.   Broadcasting lost its lure as dollars shifted from TV to online.  Update now.
